Joey Gilbert Law Sponsors 2017 Leadership Reno-Sparks Class Community Project
Joey Gilbert and our legal team are a proud sponsor of this year’s Leadership Reno-Sparks (LRS) Class community project, which is focusing on helping victims of sex trafficking. Our firm will be sponsoring the drinks for an upcoming LRS sporting clay shoot fundraising event to be held on Friday, June 23rd. LRS is hoping to raise $70,000 to help fund this year’s commendable community project.
Hosted by the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, LRS conducts a 9-month program to educate and empower future community leaders and tackle special projects that enrich our local communities. Since 1985, LRS has had over 1,100 graduates pass through its program, and has produced hundreds of leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs who continue to build and improve the Reno-Sparks area.
This year, the LRS Class community project will focus on sex trafficking, which has reached epidemic levels nationwide. Class members will be paying particular focus on the trafficking of minors, as teens as young as 12 to 14 years old are commonly forced into prostitution. While Nevada lawmakers are working to address the problem and pass legislation to crack down on offenders, teens and young women still face considerable challenges when trying to escape exploitation, find others means of employment, and rebuild their lives.
With funds raised through sponsors and charitable events such as the upcoming sporting clay shoot, the 2017 Leadership Class intends to help raise awareness about the issue of sex trafficking and support existing efforts to provide shelter, counseling, and case management for exploited teens and young women. The LRS class also plans to accomplish other important objectives, such as increasing the number of available computers and technology to facilitate social services, purchasing mini-vans to transport clients to appointments, interviews, and other activities as they transition into the community, and making improvements to existing drop-in centers and shelter facilities.
Joey Gilbert Law is proud to support the 2017 LRS Class and contribute to this very important cause. Our legal team is always passionate about supporting the local communities and residents who continually place their trust in our firm when in need of proven representation in matters involving personal injury, criminal defense, and immigration.
