Snowfall in Reno Causes Many Vehicles to Lose Traction

Recently, the roads in Reno have become quite a dangerous place due to the amount of snowfall the city has experienced. On the morning of December 24, over 20 passenger vehicles lost traction and slipped off the roads on Interstate 80.

When a Highway Patrol Trooper stopped to help accident victims, a sliding car struck his vehicle. He reports that driving speeds were the main culprit for the large number of accidents. The officer explains that drivers should not be confident traveling at speeds over 50 miles an hour, and that slower driving is key to safer commutes when roadways are covered in snow.

Fortunately, none of the drivers involved in these accidents were injured.

How Can You Prevent a Car Accident When Driving in the Snow?

Sometimes, avoiding the snow is impossible. Because most people have responsibilities that force them to get on the road, not driving is not an option. However, people can practice safe driving habits to avoid accidents in icy, snowy, and wet weather.

Our Reno car accident lawyers have listed some safety tips below:

  • Try not to change lanes often.
  • Drive at slower speeds than normal.
  • Use low beams rather than high beams.
  • Be patient.
  • Leave room between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
  • Don’t hit your brakes aggressively.
