Distracted Driving Awareness Program
This program has been funded through a $1.5 million federal grant given by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This grant was dispersed to 26 different law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Nevada. The grant also sponsors other programs like intoxicated drivers and speeding awareness.
Reno police Sgt. Joe Robinson said, "It's important to get a consistent message out that law enforcement is pursuing these efforts."
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said, "What we are mainly seeing, quite frankly, are people still reading text messages, emails or checking Facebook while stopped in traffic. That is the majority of the violations. But we still continue to see motorists talking on phones with the phone to their ear."
