Commercial Drivers and DUIs
If you have a Commercial Driver’s License and you are convicted of DUI, regardless of whether it is in a commercial vehicle or a passenger car, will suspend your Commercial Driver’s License for a minimum period of ONE year. Although you may be able to get a Limited Permit for a class C license and reinstate your non-Commercial license, your Commercial License will still be suspended for one year and there are NO LIMITED PERMITS FOR A COMMERCIAL LICENSE OR COMMERCIAL VEHICLE. Multiple convictions for DUI will lengthen the period of suspension for each offense and may cause a PERMANENT REVOCATION of your CDL.
If you do not have a Commercial License, but you are convicted of a DUI, your Nevada Driver’s History will reflect that your Commercial Driver’s License status is suspended for the one year period. This has no effect on your Non- Commercial status, but it will prevent your ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License for the suspension period and it will remain on your record and it may affect your ability to obtain employment and/or insurance, related to the Commercial License, due to the previous suspension of the Commercial status.
The above being so, the importance of hiring legal counsel is paramount. Your livelihood and way of life may depend on it. If you or loved one has been arrested for driving under the influence, contact our DUI Defense Team at Joey Gilbert Law, for a FREE consultation. Call (775) 574-4774.
