New DUI Laws Hold Party Host Accountable

There are new laws going into effect on Monday October 1st to help in the prevention of minors drinking and driving. It will be holding more than the driver accountable for the driving offense.

Currently, if a minor leaves a party drunk, and drives and ends up injuring someone the host of the party would not likely face charges, unless a lawyer could prove intent to get that minor drunk. After October 1st, the new law that has been passed will hold the party host accountable. They could be sued for damages if any minor at their party was served alcohol and drives resulting in injuring someone or some property.

This law will only apply to civil law suits but it's intended to force minors to think before serving alcohol or getting behind the wheel and drinking and driving.
